Vintage Baseball Nursery

Vintage Baseball Nursery

We've discussed several nursery themes, but always seem to come back to vintage baseball for our boy. I know most people assume that we'll do something like Star Wars or LOTR, but J wants this. He came up with the theme, and I just did a little research. We already ave the crib and changing table, the walls are already blue, all we really need is the decor (and my sweet little Ryker, of course!). Unfortunately, our budget for the remainder of the nursery is looking like it's around $150-ish. I'm selfishly hoping that we'll bet a bulk of this stuff at the baby shower (things like the crib skirt, sheets, lamp, mobile, and the organization stuff), but I feel like most of the decorating part falls on us. I tried to keep this affordable by looking at places like Target. And we'll probably use some of J's photos from the Baron's Classic games. There's always DIY too! J seems ready to build some stuff for his little guy's room. I think it's safe to say that Daddy is already Ryker's #1 fan.

21 Weeks

How far along:
21 Weeks. We made it over the 20 week hump. All of a sudden I'm kind of freaking out that we won't be ready for Ryker when the time comes!

How big is the baby:
Baby is the length of a carrot.

Weight gain/Maternity clothes:
Starting Weight: 291
Current Weight: 288.9
Total Gain: -2.1
Lost a pound this week. No biggie. Still doing half maternity and half regular with my clothes.

Movement?
Pretty sure I feel some of the stronger kicks.

Food cravings/aversions?
Loves: milk, meat, and anything spicy (he loves giving momma heartburn)
Hates: lettuce and most other vegetables

Gender?
We get a sweet baby boy!

Symptoms?
This week has been like a return to the first trimester. Overwhelming fatigue, headaches, and quite a bit of nausea. Plus the hip pains and swollen feet that come with the second trimester. Luckily though, everything seems to have eased up a bit in the last day or two.

What do I miss?
Not a single thing.

This Week:
Ryker is now 10.5 inches long! That's like half the size he'll be when he is born. He now has precious little eyebrows. Grow, Ryker, grow! We're so excited to meet you.

Bump Shot: 21 Weeks
Work was a little crazy today, so I didn't get to slip off to the bathroom to snap a picture. Instead, you get a dark, probably blurry picture taken after folding laundry.... Not looking my best.

It's a...

BOY!

Today is the day!

Feels like I've been waiting for this day since December 26th! We'll find out if Baby Nerd is a boy or girl in about 2 hours!!!!!! So stinking excited!

20 Weeks

How far along:
20 Weeks. Whoa, Baby, we're at the halfway point. You're not even out and you're already growing so fast. I could never believe when other pregnant ladies said they were amazed to be 20 weeks along, but now I'm with them on that amazement. This is kind of a huge milestone.

How big is the baby:
Baby is the size of a banana. Sometimes the fruit comparisons don't make sense to me.

Weight gain/Maternity clothes:
Starting Weight: 291
Current Weight: 289.9
Total Gain: -1.1
Definitely gaining weight a little faster than I'd like at this point. I guess it's time to retire the ice cream.
Still in maternity pants (and super stretchy pre-preggo pants) & normal stretchy tops. I've decided to try not to spend any more money on clothes until later, when I actually know how big I will be. For now, I can wear stretchy tops with a cami layered underneath.

Movement?
I don't even know what's movement and what's gas anymore. I definitely feel something in there, especially when I'm tossing and turning all night or bending down or putting on shoes, etc.

Food cravings/aversions?
I love milk. Seriously, I have to limit myself on the amount I drink each day, because I could easily down about a gallon each day.

Gender?
6 days until our anatomy scan! (Except I never published this entry... so no we're at 1 day until our anatomy scan!)

Symptoms?
fatigue. irritability. headaches. gas. mild heartburn. growing belly is getting in the way. hip pain. vivid dreams.

What do I miss?
Sleeping for more than a few hours at a time. I usually fall asleep around 8 or 9 and sleep pretty well until 11-ish. Then I pretty much wake up every hour or so... to pee, my throat is dry and I need water, then I have to pee again, I'm too hot, I fell asleep on my hand and now it's tingly, my hips hurt so I have to turn over, my husband is snoring in my ear. That sort of thing.

This Week:
Baby Nerd weighs 10.5 ounces now and is 6.5 inches long crown to rump (if you measure head to heel, Baby is about 10 inches long -- this is how measurements will be taken from this point on.). Baby Nerd is swallowing more and giving the digestive system good practice for later. Also, Little Nerd is producing meconium now. It's building up for the first diaper change.

Boy or Girl?

A little fun for the week leading up to our anatomy scan!

Chinese Gender Chart
Uses the mother’s age and month of conception = BOY
Using my lunar age and month of conception = GIRL

Mayans
Uses mother’s age at conception & year of conception. If both are even or both are odd, it’s a girl. If one is even and one is odd, it’s a boy. I was 25 in 2012, so this says BOY.

Nausea:
A girl will make you more nauseous. I was pretty nauseous for the first 14 weeks or so (Once got sick while driving down the road. Didn’t even pull over. Puking Champ, right here.). I’m counting it as a GIRL.

Heart Rate:
This says that if baby’s heartbeat is above 140 bpm, then it’s a girl. If it’s below 140 bpm, it’s a boy. The heart rate has always been in the 150’s – 160’s. GIRL.

Cravings:
If baby is a girl, momma will crave more sweets. If it’s a boy, momma craves more sour and salty. I’ve craved them all (hello chips in my ice cream!), but mostly spicy. So this is kind of inconclusive.

Acne:
A girl will cause acne because of all the extra hormones. If I’m being honest, my skin has been clearer since getting pregnant. There are occasional zits of course, but it’s mostly clear, so I’m saying BOY.

Clumsiness:
If you’re more clumsy, it’s a boy. If you’re graceful, it’s a girl. No one can accuse me of being graceful lately, so BOY it is.

Boobs:
If you’re boobs grow a lot, that means it’s a girl. Mine haven’t grown at all! BOY.

Sleep:
If you prefer to sleep on your left side, it’s a girl. If you prefer your right side, it’s a boy. I’d prefer to sleep on my back! Sleeping on my sides makes me toss and turn all night (which is much more difficult when there’s a pillow between your knees that has to be re-adjusted every single time you move!). Overall, I guess I prefer left, so this says GIRL.

Hands:
Softer hands indicate a girl, rougher hands indicate a boy. Mine are still pretty soft (although pretty dry). GIRL.

High or Low:
If you feel heaviness up high it’s a girl. If you feel heaviness down low it’s a boy. There is no doubt about it, the heaviness is definitely low! BOY.

Ring Test:
Tie your wedding ring to a piece of string and hold it over your belly. If it swings in circles it’s a boy. If it swings back and forth, it’s a girl. It swung in circles, BOY.

Verdict:

Boy= 7

Girl= 5
Almost a 50/50 split.

19 Weeks

How far along:
19 Weeks.

How big is the baby:
Baby is the size of a tomato.
image via babycenter

Weight gain/Maternity clothes:
Starting Weight: 291
Current Weight: 287.5
Total Gain: -3.5
Somebody gained a lot of weight this week!
Still in maternity pants (and super stretchy pre-preggo pants) & normal tops. Have started looking for more maternity tops, since I only have 3 "maternity" shirts & regular tops are getting more difficult to stretch.

Movement?
Last week was a false alarm. Only gas. I haven't felt anything. Boo, Baby Nerd.

Food cravings/aversions?
Well, the chicken and mayo sandwich cravings have dissipated. Lately (as in yesterday), I'm having a hard time finding stuff I like to eat. A lot of things sound ok, but once I start eating them they just don't taste good or they make my tummy hurt. I don't even like brownies right now!

Gender?
2 Weeks (!!!!!!!!) til we find out!

Symptoms?
fatigue. irritability. DAILY headaches. gas. sneezing. crampiness. mild heartburn. growing belly is getting in the way. posture changes. hip pain (almost constant for the last 3-4 days). minor back aches. vivid dreams.

What do I miss?
I love growing this baby, but I would like some hip pain relief. Also, I've been trying to talk/sing a lot so the baby will know my voice (since I'm normally pretty quiet), sometimes I feel a little like a crazy woman walking around the house talking to myself.

This Week:
Baby Nerd is focusing on sensory development this week. The brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, and touch. Baby Nerd can hear me now, which is why I walk around muttering to myself. Little Nerd is 8.5 ounces and 6 inches long (whoa, half a foot and half a pound, that seems so surreal.) Hair is sprouting, although probably not, since I'm pretty sure the Nerd will be a baldy.

And a comparison shot (I didn't realize I was wearing pretty much the exact same outfit!):

18 Weeks

How far along:
18 Weeks.

How big is the baby:
Baby is the size of a bell pepper.
image via babycenter

Weight gain/Maternity clothes:
Starting Weight: 291
Current Weight: 284.7
Total Gain: -6.3
My wardrobe is still the mullet of clothes. Regular on top, maternity on the bottom. Normal prepregnancy tops only reach my belly button (unless they were tunic-y to begin with). I tried wearing a maternity top to work earlier this week and felt kind of like a slob.

Movement?
I think maaaaaaaybe I felt it move. Or I had gas.

Food cravings/aversions?
Right now I love love love chicken sandwiches with cheese and mayo and mustard. Seriously, I've pretty much eaten them for breakfast lunch and dinner since Easter. (Mother-in-law made a chicken for Easter lunch, so I've been attacking our leftovers.) I still like spicy foods and sweet foods and lately the sour part of sour patch watermelon gummies. But right now a chicken sandwich is all I want. Think I may go eat one now. Spoiler alert: I ate the sandwich in record time.
We still dislike vegetables. So it's been difficult eating healthy, but I've been trying to find some stuff Little Nerd likes. Asparagus and broccoli are ok. Salad is the devil.

Gender?
Still not sure. Originally when we started trying to have a baby, I wanted a girl and he wanted a boy. Now it seems our preferences have switched. Of course, we'll be ecstatic either way. The best part is that we get to find out in 3 weeks!

Symptoms?
fatigue. irritability. headaches. gas. sneezing. occasional shortness of breath. belly is starting to get in the way when picking up something off the floor or putting on shoes (boots & sandals mostly). hips get stiff when sitting too long (at work, when there's a big deadline looming). back aches when getting a little too crazy about spring cleaning. also, been having some very vivid dreams about my mother and stepmother... sometimes they're like nightmares. maybe my anxiety about becoming a mother is surfacing?

What do I miss?
Not much. This second trimester is pretty awesome. I do miss being able to take 4-ish pills (usually ibuprofen) for my killer headaches.

This Week:
Baby Nerd is 5.5 inches long and weighs about 7 ounces. Little Nerd is flexing arms and legs and blood vessels are visible though thin skin. The ears are now in their final position. Guess that means Baby Nerd has been entertained with our nightly viewings of Star Wars. :)
